Will your kids like it and/or will you hate it?
Jack was very excited when he opened the mail box the pillow kit came in. He screamed Unicorn Pillow! I was also very excited to start putting the pillow together, but I realized the DIY part means sewing. I can sew by hand, but unfortunately Jack hasn't mastered sewing skills yet. So, we definitely recommend for this kit to kids (and adults) who have sewing skills (the box it comes in recommends ages 8+). I want to also note that this product is new in the Goldieblox line-up, and I have to say I really like it over some of their other toys.
How long will it keep them entertained?
I think it will keep your kids entertained for quite a few hours. I've only sewed the unicorn horn together so far, and still have the ears, pillow/body, and hair/other decorations to put together. I'll have Jack help me put the lights in the pillow, seems easy enough as they are an LED string with a battery pack, but we still have quite a ways to go until a finished product. So apologies that you won't see our finished Goldieblox DIY Glowing Unicorn Pillow, but I didn't want to hold up the giveaway. One lucky winner is going to have a lot of fun making their own, and since it will take some time to make and holidays are right around the corner, I won't delay the raffle!
Are they a good value?
Amazon is telling me that the Goldieblox DIY Glowing Unicorn Pillow is under $25 now. I think that is a fair price for what you get, and the quality of the material is really nice. Like I don't feel the pillow will fall apart because of manufacturer; it may fall apart because of the DIY'er/sewing operator (aka me and semi questionable sewing skills), haha.
Ninja-like STEM Skills
There's definitely some math and tech skills involved in making your own glowing unicorn pillow. I also like that there is a STEM card inside the kit that explains a little more about circuits and another card to hack your own smell for the pillow. The Goldieblox DIY Glowing Unicorn Pillow also ties in nicely to Goldieblox's YouTube Channel, which we're big fans of their YouTube Channel here at STEM Spark!
Overall, I think this kit is fun and will keep your kid (or yourself) occupied for a few hours as you finish this STEM project. Again, it wasn't quite age appropriate for Jack, but I do like this Goldieblox product probably the best out of all of the ones we've tried. 4.5 stars out of 5 (using the Amazon scale) from us!
